$5 Harbor Freight Machete: Good deal or Garbage?

I bought a Harbor Freight machete for just 5 bucks. But did I make the right choice? I won’t say it’s garbage, but it’s definitely not the tool I would recommend for a jungle trip.

You never know when a disaster may strike (or plain old everyday necessity) so it’s best to be prepared at all times… that’s where a durable, multipurpose tool can really come in handy. Depending on where you live, a machete might be an excellent tool to keep on hand. I put this one through a lot of abuse, including chopping and sawing through branches and even hacking away at logs or boards. The steel help up well, no complaints. but the handle? Well that’s a different story… watch the video to find out more.

The handle issue could be easily fixed if you’re a good wood worker. It wouldn’t be too hard to make a decent wood handle and rivet it on through the holes that already come in the metal. It probably wouldn’t be as comfortable as the plastic, and you might feel the shock of every strike a bit more. But you can be sure it’d be a lot more durable. Would be ok for the money. I’m just not a fan of those serrations on the top

Showemright YTchannel says:

the blade has holes in it where the handle grip detached from…Gordon the company that manufacture this machete should have pressed a rivet or screw through the the grip through the steel then other side of grip.

Hey brother, nice review. I wanted to share my experience. I was cutting some atv trails around the house and hit a piece of hard wood with my HF machete and it broke the blade in two places. Luckily I didn’t get hurt but it could have been real bad. I’ve owned it a little over a year and only used it a couple of times. I definitely won’t be replacing that machete with another HF one! Hope my experience helps. https://www.instagram.com/p/BX1TjPXALqI/?taken-by=chaosgarageshow
