Opinel No 8 Folding Knife Review. Un Product Film de Jean Luc Godard

One of the most iconic folding pocket knives of all time is the Opinel no 8. This review of the classic French blade features inspirations from the French New Wave film style (like Godard’s Breathless)- designed to annoy people who don’t know what that is. Or enrage people who hate black and white French films, with people tryung to be cool. I compare the Opinel to other favorite pocket knives including the Spyderco Para Military 2, the Douk Douk, and the Higo no kami. The Opinel no. 8 can be purchased in a carbon steel variant or a Sandvik stainless steel variety. It also features a locking mechanism called a Viroblock, and a really nice Beech Wood handle. This knife can be purchased in multiple sizes, but I chose the 8 because of it’s useful 3 inch plus size blade:

Bon revue mon ami! C’est mon premier couteau. Ou est le Vin? Ou est le fromage??

Paul Google says:

Good knife to throw in the camping box for food prep?

matt frejiszyn says:

tres bien!

Mitchell Delmar says:

Dammit, AKB, where are the French subtitles? And we all waited for you to cut cheese… nothing. Je ne regrette rein.

Hey… in case you didn’t know the Gerber saw backs were never branded by bear grills. Hahahahahahaaaa! I ruined it for everybody!!!

Doctor Frunkey says:

Your vids are next level man. Love this.

SailfishSoundSystem says:

I love my Opinel. I put a patina on mine and recently sanded the handle. I’m going use a dark stain on it and maybe filework the spine. Because fuck it, it’s cheap. I have Douk Douk knife too, but I like the Opinel better because it’s less likely to lob my finger off when closing after slamming 4 bottles of Boone’s Farm. Here’s the conclusion of Mon Opinel Aventure!

CVN71 OU812 says:

I would’ve been really impressed if you got Jean-Luc Picard to direct your film. I just got the number 9 this week so your review was timely. I got it just to add to the collection, not for any real use. If you haven’t, take a look at Antonini Pattada knives from Italy. They look very interesting.

Elias Cervantez says:

Whaaaatttt everyone knows urine adds flavor to everything psssfftt wimp

sevenrayz says:

Nice vid!

Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors says:

I’ve got one of these. It’s a great little knife that I don’t pocket carry either.

Daffa Wiratama says:

nice review. also, the spine of Opinel knives is very sharp which mean you can strikes ferro rod if you need to

Cavedog says:

Excellent video as always.

Have you ever considered doing a review of a benchmade anthem?

HardwareG33k says:

2:06 13 inches.. right 😉

David Bock says:

This is one of your best vids. Good job, man. Love the vibe and production quality.

MT scott says:

I have seen those knives before but never knew the details. Thanks. Viva Pepe Le Pew.

Stuart McCloud says:

Brilliant, love the french film theme…you have a great channel man!

Jason Chatham says:

the only liquid I EVER bother wipe off my blades……………is BLOOD! and semen…but that’s for another topic.
Edit: damn AKB! you are hardcore! going for the menthol Pal Mals ….that’s risky.

Eric White says:

Stabbing would require a special grip for an opinel. Emergency use only for a stab as you would probably only get 2 good shots before breaking a tip. Leave it to France to have something that looks kinda plain that’s actually pretty awesome. Actually I could probably find you a pouch with a pocket or belt clip if need be but before we go down that rabbit hole all we have to do is find an old school flip phone case sure there are better options out there but if you are lucky you can find them for 1$

lowwkey91 says:

I have an Opinel No 6. Guess mine is not as big as yours. Handy little blade in the kitchen, but you are right they are not suitable for pocket carry. Great video! Thanks, Knife Bro!

Outpost 76 says:

Love your French film style video.

Chris Brooks says:

Note to self…. Never ask Advanced Knife Bro if I can borrow his knife for a sec…

Of course, with the “water and urine” washed from the blade, it should be fine. 🙂

49Giants says:

Vive l’avance couteau bro!!! At least that’s how google translated. Long live advance knife bro. Another awesome review my friend, avant-garde even !!

mythrol says:

I really appreciate the effort you put into this video. Anyone could review this knife, not many with your… Style

DirtRoadRider # says:

I was hooked on watching from the second I heard the hepcat bass in the background playing along with Pall Mall’s and the hipster shitty microbrew beer

Wee wee Monsieur.

cyclist01222 says:

At first I thought I liked this knife but then again, maybe I didn’t. Who was to know? It was hard to tell because it was late at night and foggy. And then she approached… I tipped my fedora and went for my knife but that collar locking thing got stuck and my deployment was slow. She begged on and the fog turned to rain. Sound of my brown leather shoes hurriedly shuffling off. Street lights. Damn knife.

N English says:

Your French is impeccable.

Life In The Taiga says:

Bahaha tooooo good

Matt G says:

Beer, cigs, apples…the AKB Diet

PowerMadHeadBanger says:

Having a very thin blade on a knife that’s its not meant to be hard used makes sense because it makes at least a good slicer. I live in Brazil and I have some slipjoints that you can find only in Brazil and they have very blades and they are great slicers.

CalvaryKnivesLLC says:

It’s pronounced “duke duke” from what I understand.

Jacco E says:

Completely a bout de soufle, Knife Bro. Your best flick yet.
(I actually did like A bout de souffle, does that make me a pompous ass?)

Josh W says:

7:00 Collector’s Knives makes leather slips with a pocket clip but they are sized for Great Eastern Cutlery knives. I doubt even the largest would hold a smaller Opinel.

Do you really smoke

Remember The Slap Films says:

Sn says:

Eating an apple with a knife like that reminds me of that evil hobo in “Dennis the menace”. Please watch that scene and recreate it in a future knifereview 😀 On the review itself, i liked it! I`ve always considered Opinel to be knives carried exclusively by extremely old people, but after watching this video i might have to get one for myself, (a knife, not an old person). Keep up the good work!:)

Patrick Koch says:

Can’t wait to not get one of those

John Bowen says:

Real men carry the Portugese MAM, in that paragon of edge retention, INOX. 😉

mak450 says:

Ohhh shit, you’re finally reviewing an Opinel? Be still, my throbbing hipster penis!
