The Kershaw Shuffle Pocketknife: The Full Nick Shabazz Review

The Kershaw Shuffle is a $15 knife/bottle-opener which has an interesting design, but which is deeply flawed in a number of fascinating and face-palmingly obvious ways.

The final conclusion? Just no.

r s says:

Pretty sure ur not suppose to rest ur finger on the blade like that its a two finger knife ur thumb goes on top further back thats why its got the rivets

Mike says:

Nick, I agree that the Shuffle is a gimmick knife. However I think your buddy got a bad one. Which I have found is possible when your talking low end knives. I recently purchased a Cryo and like your review on that knife it needed a little love as you put it. I liked it enough to buy another because the price was so good. Along with it I got the Shuffle. The second Cryo was terrible. The edge grind was just plain lousy, bad blade centering (even after adjusting). The Shuffle has no lock jump and perfect edge grind.
I am just saying low end knives can be a crap shoot.

Medic Sabbi says:

The shuffle too could possibly be gem. I carried one for quite some time and loved it. They integrated the bottle opener/flat head screwdriver/ lanyard hole into thee handle without the bottle opener on the back so it doesn’t stab the user in the hand. Check it out if you ever have a chance Nick!

Douglas Bagdasarian says:

I get a kick out of some of your reviews as they are based solely on empirical data. The Blade ratio for this knife is 0.738 using Kershaw’s data which is 0.02 less than a Sebenza and the optimum between .7 to 1… Blade to weight ratio is 0.0857 which is just a little heavy with >1 being optimal… Showing a caliper does not mean you actually did the math to support it… Your reviews are good, but opinions should not be passed off as fact with no data to support it other than empirical evidence…

T K says:

a knife this small needs more handle than blade. the whole blade to handle ratio thing is nonsense.

Jake Lee says:

fuck the kkk. racist bastards. kill em all

jauntymarkus1 says:

when i looked at the thumbnail i thought it´s another z hunter model

Bruce Leo says:

Harsh review. I have three of these, in different colors so if zombie green and blackwash isn’t your thing it’s not the end of the world. I tried the lock shift on each of them and had no issues. I carry these as a secondary blade, so they aren’t going in my primary pocket. Usually clipped to a fifth pocket on jeans or on a cargo pocket well out of the way, but I could see how the bottle opener could be a problem. I think the ergos are great for my XL hands, the pinky falls off but it isn’t needed. I always knock of the corner of the edge by the choil and as a result I haven’t ever gotten bit there. I love them, gems for me.

Captain Sunday says:

This guy’s seeing KKK and nazi symbols everywhere. He probably suspects his toothbrush.

Richard Dick says:

It’s a flat screwdriver, not a pry bar.

pengo242 says:

think you’re nit picking– this is a pretty useful looking tool!

sheepborg says:

I ended out sanding off that stupid K texture from my beater kershaw freefall. Much better

Rade Lončar says:

That’s just not the way you’re gonna take out that knife from your pocket, ’cause, if you’re taking it out, you’ll be doing that with your thumb and index finger. So, thumb is going inside the pocket, aside from the knife and misses that bottle opener.

J Simons says:

I bought three of these for $10 dollars each (the 8700 in blue, black and red scales) for my sons just keep in their vehicles. It was worth the $30 just to watch them run around and try to open bottles with it!

I actually find myself picking this up for small tasks around the house and even occasionally carrying it. I have to admit that there are many knives in this size for a little more money that are far superior, but for $10, I have found this to be quite a value, not to mention the entertainment value and cool colors!

Heck, I would pay $10 for a sharpened stick and consider it a good deal!

Dan Hauswald says:

You’re welcome. And it did deserve it!

Two of my biggest gripes with this knife you either didn’t notice, or were overshadowed by all the other bad.

1) The bottle opener. Yeah it’s in a bad spot, and it’s brutal, but also it is TERRIBLE. Worst bottle opener I’ve ever used… you’re better off with a bic lighter.

2) This might be my large hands and long fingers at work, but I constantly found my finger riding up too far forward on the choil and getting nipped by the back of the blade. You can actually see a little bit of black sharpie on the back of the edge because I stopped sharpening the full length of the blade.

This is just my ‘Chicago’ knife now. I live in the burbs and can carry this without worry. It’s legal, and if I want to go in a place with security, I can drop it in a planter, bury it in some snow, or just throw it in the trash.

BornIn1500 says:

I like your reviews, and I actually just bought a Kershaw Link after watching you. But as for your opinion on the K’s being an homage to the KKK? That’s absurd. It’s not 3 of them. It’s a hundred. It’ clearly is for the first name of the brand and it’s clearly for texture. Has the liberal ideology led us so far down the censorship path that K’s are now taboo in every form? I went to a high school called the Konkrete Kids. It’s still named that to this day. Not once have I ever heard anyone talk about a KKK connection or try to get rid of the name. America must keep stomping out the liberal attempt at censorship.

Great review.. I absolutely love mine hahahaha its amazing the diversity in the knife world.

handsofmuffins says:

I just recently got a Shuffle 2 and I was inspecting it along side of this video. The 2 fixes the lock rock issue, the scales don’t have the ‘k’ pattern, and the new bottle opener design isn’t a pain. Not saying its amazing, but at the same price point its way better than the og shuffle.

Nanchi Knives says:

ya a couple of Kershaw knives have that lock problem it’s pretty bad on the blur

Bryan Stone says:

Besides Opinel what would be the other better knives in the $15 range?

Mark Tully says:

You are the Grand Wizard of Knife reviews! Next time, try carrying a small knife like this in your 5th pocket of your jeans. It frees up your pockets for more gems.

mcbosco1 says:

This is a great beater for stabbing into beer cans, which is literally the only reason i bought it. just dont actually carry it.

BlueRedGooGoo says:

I picked one of these up about four years ago, and it was my EDC for three and a half. Mine never had lock issues, and the thumb studs never stopped it from cutting. I used it ever day for two years on a kelly drilling rig cutting rope (sash cord and hemp rope 3/4 inch thick), thick reinforced chemical sacks (close to 400 a day most days), prying apart pallets to make a chair (gotta fuck around some), cleaning threads on large mud covered bolts, using the back to force metal on those threads back into place enough to use the bolts, cutting through metal mesh shaker screens, cutting and evening out high pressure reinforced hose ends half an inch thick to put new ends on them, prying apart the snail ends on centrifuge pumps, and punching holes in the side of 44 gallon metal drums.

For the last year and some I was using it to cut shingles almost every day.

This knife still has absolutely no blade play, the liner lock is still sturdy and refuses to budge unless I make it, it hasn’t folded on me once, I haven’t lost grip on it while my hands were muddy or covered in thick slimy chemical, and I have always been able to bring the edge back to hair popping sharp easily. I respect your reviews and love your content, but you let somebody else share their view of the knife with you and you just agreed with them without giving this knife a fair shot. It isn’t my nicest knife, or even my favorite knife, but I’ve had it in hand and pocket much longer than 99% of the knife world keeps a single knife. And I will stand behind this knife any and every day of the week, because it has dug me out of more messes and helped me complete more tasks than I could ever remember. I strongly urge you to try giving this knife the fair chance it deserves.

Traumatik says:

Kershaw Knife Klan haha

Cem Millik says:

Whoo! 1.5k subs. Keep it up!

Fishman says:

I used a shuffle for a while. It had a black handle and no painted blade. I never had to use bottle opener. I hated the K handle. I needed to tie a para cord lanyard to it so I could pull it out. Moving up I now hate this knife. But when I had it as the only thing I could use, it worked.

40belowful says:

Damn I like the KKK your brought in the racist part  as your opinion:) Nick the dick:)

gone rydin says:

I still like it. : )

badlydrawnkid6 says:

The second I looked at this knife, I knew it would be irritating. It looks uncomfortable to carry. Reason I never bought it. My main knife doesn’t need a bottle opener and a pry tool on it. Those 2 tools are super common. I could just get a little pocket tool. The other thing I hated about this knife is that it looks emo/screamo/scene kid from 2006. I’m a little surprised I like black coated knives. Some of them.

J S says:

This review is crazy ….kkk it’s kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk…….what an annoying voice and opinion…” I dis-recommend this” wtf is that?

ryan delehanty says:

shuffle two is better

eyal yaish says:
